Dr. Bethany Rice 

Bethany is currently an Assistant Professor at Towson University in Towson, MD. Dr. Rice specializes in curriculum and assessment in literacy, action research, as well as inclusive education. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses at TU. 

Her career spans 20+ years in education. Bethany began as a classroom teacher and reading specialist, before earning her doctorate from the University of Vermont in 2011. From there she worked in private sector consulting, before transitioning back into higher education. Dr. Rice published her first book, Global Perspectives on Inclusive Teacher Education, as well as many other peer review journals and papers. She has presented widely on her research, both within the United States and internationally. However, teaching and community outreach continue to fuel her passion for literacy.

Ebony Alvarado

Secretary & Board Member 

Ebony is an entrepreneur - co-owner of We Bake and Brew Cafe, which specializes in custom cookies and cakes.  She creates one-of-a-kind cakes for each client. She is also an Airbnb host, and loves living in Maryland. 

Ebony is a public speaker and passionate about encouraging the support of military familes. She serves as an Ambassador for several organizations, which provide mentorship and financial aid for children who have lost a parent in the US Special forces. 

Dr. Stephanie Moody

Board Member 

Stephanie M. Moody is currently an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education at Towson University. Stephanie worked as an elementary teacher for a decade before earning her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Literacy for ESL students from Texas A&M University. Stephanie's research interests include practice-based teacher education, writing instruction for second language learners, and eliciting within book discussions. She is published in The Reading Teacher, TESL-EJ, The New Educator, Literacy Research and Instruction, and many other peer-reviewed journals and books.
